These works of art are produced by skilled, talented workers in many of the same regions of oriental rugs. The Kilim rug though is not typically considered an oriental rug as the manufacturing technique is different from the typical Oriental rug. Rather than being hand-knotted or dyed to a specific pattern, the artisan making the Kilim rug interlocks the individual colored fiber through the warp and creates a very tight weave. The result is a very flat rug, known as a flat weave. Because of the techniques used to make a Kilim rug, the patterns are mostly diagonal although some artists have been known to incorporate even more intricate patterns. The Kilim rug is certainly a natural, handmade and durable rug with patterns for almost any taste.
