What Are Hand-Woven Kilim Rugs?

A Hand-Woven Kilim rug β€” also called a Flatweave β€” uses what is called a "Slit-weave" technique. The Slit-weave technique uses only a warp yarn as the foundation, allowing the weaver to build the rug by interlacing the yarn as the weft.

To avoid long vertical slits that can make a Kilim rug less durable, most are created with diagonal or horizontal patterns. This is why it's very common to see stripes, octagons, diamonds, and triangular shapes in a Flatweave rug.

Kilim rugs were first used by the Egyptians, dating back to about 1400 B.C. β€” making them one of the oldest rug-making traditions in the world.

What Makes a Kilim Rug So Special?

1- Most Kilim rugs are reversible β€” two rugs in one.

2- Hand-Woven Kilim rugs are built with natural fibers such as Wool, Cotton, and sometimes Sari-Silk.

3- Kilim rugs don't shred β€” unlike machine-made rugs that use synthetic fibers and constantly shed.

Do I Need To Add a Rug Pad?

Yes, a Rug-pad can be critical to your rug's performance and appearance.

Our Rug-pad protects the back of your rug from grinding against the floors, prevents slippage, reduces noise, and provides extra walking comfort.

Our Rug-pad is made with natural rubber and will not stain your floors. It is custom cut 2 inches short from each side to fit your rug perfectly.
