One of the most interesting methods is the Soumak weaving technique, known for producing rugs that are both visually striking and highly durable. While it is not as intricate as hand-knotted rug construction, it is more advanced than a basic flat weave.

In a traditional weave, the weft thread passes over and under warp threads. Soumak enhances this by wrapping the thread around selected warps, creating a braided texture and stronger structure.

This method produces a distinctive appearance and allows artisans to create detailed geometric patterns. Soumak rugs are part of the flatweave family and are often reversible, making them suitable for both floor use and wall display.
